The Prime Minister has sent a handwritten message to a 10-year-old from Guiseley who wrote to him about her outrage over MPs' expenses.
As reported on Guiseley Today, Kennedy Greenwood put pen to paper to tell Gordon Brown she was "appalled".

The 10-year-old from Guiseley, Leeds, said MPs should "pay back every penny" and told the PM: "You should really keep an eye on the MPs you select."

Now the Prime Minister has formally replied to her letter, even adding the handwritten message "Thank you for your proposals".

In the rest of the typed letter Mr Brown said: "Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write to me about how appalled you are with MPs' allowances.

"Revelations about the unacceptable practices in MPs' expenses have angered me a great deal.

"It is clear that the House of Commons has to reform the system of allowances dramatically."

He goes on to say the Government is looking at the allowances system and details a new independent body to regulate MPs and their claims.

Kennedy, who is thinking of becoming a politician or a journalist when she is older, said she was pleased with the reply.

"It's very informative, explaining the steps of the system," she said.

"He is good because he is taking young people's opinions in and trying to sort it out."

The youngster wrote the letter without her parents' knowledge and even appeared on the BBC national news after the story.

Her proud mum Lynne, 43, said: "I thought it was a really good thing, especially that he put a little handwritten note on the bottom."
